We need your support.

We’re setting out on a fundraising effort to improve the Rotary Skatepark and offer more youth-development programs, here in the Columbia River Gorge. We can’t do it without public support, volunteer effort and dedicated resources.

Maintenance / Shed

During the first phase of the Renewal Project we’ll be raising funds for some general maintenance and setting up a shed with tools and equipment for the project. Parks and Rec has approved our request to establish a base for Hood River Skateboarding where we can keep camp supplies, non-permanent skate elements, and everything we need to execute the future phases.

  • • Fill any dangerous gaps or cracks in the concrete/asphalt.

    • Grind stumps leftover from Pine Beetle devastation.

    • Have an arborist review West Pine / creek Cottonwood safety.

    • Replace damaged marble ledge with steel.

    • Replace missing pool coping.

    • Weld loose metal fence panels which cause safety concerns.

    • Address drainage issues.

    • Continue painting any neglected areas.

    • Mulch along Wasco Street and interior nature-scape areas.

    • Remove blackberries around the stream.

  • • Build Shed with sliding window for staff interaction.

    • Protect shed/window from vandalism and break-ins (steel panels).

    • Hood River Skateboarding Pop-tent and table skirt.

    • Backpack leaf blower for HR-SB Staff.

    • Pressure Washer

    • Wheelbarrow

    • Hand tools, shovels, lopers, pick-ax, rakes, etc.

    • Sound system for music.

    • Propane grill for work parties.

    • Electric push-mower, line trimmer and chain saw.

The Jump Line

During the second phase of the Renewal Project we’ll head a bit uphill to the abandoned bike track.

Fun fact: this was the very first jump line that master trail-builder, and School of Send founder, Gary Paasch assembled back in 1997. In those days, he was restricted to a three-foot height limit, which held him back from building the types of lines he was imagining. Almost three decades later, we’re so excited to come full circle and support Gary in his mission of redemption. Through his contracting service, Sendscapes, and some 3D modeling from Steve Vinyard over at HRATS, we’re extremely excited to see what they come up with through the Renewal effort. But we need your support!

There’s a lot of crossover from bike-to-skate and our active, outdoor community could really benefit from having a dialed jump line, right here in the heart of Hood River. Just take a moment to imagine lapping a trail, Post Canyon-worthy, on your lunch break, or after school, and keep in mind, there’s a mellow asphalt up-hill return from the base of the park to ensure a safe one-way downhill trail, open to the entire community.

  • • Work with HRATS and Sendscapes on initial design.

    • Obtain approval from the City and Parks & Rec.

    • Let Gary and his excavator loose on this thing.

    • Rally the troops with rakes, shovels and compactors.

    • Build any wooden elements: teeter-totters, drop-ins, etc.

    • Tap into existing irrigation to maintain the track.

    • Trim away overgrowth, remove downed trees.

    • Expose the stream and incorporate into the layout.

    • Enjoy the efforts of the Renewal Project together.

    • Maintain!

Fresh Concrete

Once we’ve got the shed set up, maintained the park, and the jump line, it’ll be time to look towards pouring some fresh concrete. The Rotary park is a great all-around transition park, but we’d love to see a bit more of a ‘street-plaza’ inspired section with some modern / heavily-burnished concrete.

Check back soon for an interactive survey, as we collect community preferences for Phase 3.
